The Power of Manifestation: Lessons from Jim Carrey, Drake and J.K.Rowlings.

Your job is not to figure out how it’s going to happen for you, but to open the door in your head. And when the door opens in real life, just walk through it. And don’t worry if you miss your cue because there’s always doors opening. – Jim Carrey

Be careful what you ask for, you might get it. As author Napoleon Hill quipped in his 1937 book, Think and Grow Rich: “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve”. We all want the same things at some basic level: Wealth, Health, Success, Peace of Mind, Relationships, and Happiness. Our definition of these aspirations may vary but at some level, we are all striving for happiness. The power of manifesting and willing your heart desires is one of the great insights shared by most successful people such as Oprah Winfrey, Jim Carrey, Drake, J.K.Rowlings, Steve Harvey among others.

I think everybody should get rich and famous and do everything they ever dreamed of so they can see that it’s not the answer.” – Jim Carrey

The power of the Human Mind

Our mind is the most powerful device in our body and if used intelligently can be willed to manifest great things. In his 1903 book: As a Man Thinketh, author James Allen writes about the power of the mind and the effects of thought on circumstance. He writes:

MAN’S mind may be likened to a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild; but whether cultivated or neglected, it must, and will, bring forth. If no useful seeds are put into it, then an abundance of useless weed seeds will fall therein and will continue to produce their kind.

Just as a gardener cultivates his plot, keeping it free from weeds, and growing the flowers and fruits which he requires, so may a man tend the garden of his mind, weeding out all the wrong, useless, and impure thoughts, and cultivating toward perfection the flowers and fruits of right, useful, and pure thoughts. By pursuing this process, a man sooner or later discovers that he is the master gardener of his soul, the director of his life. He also reveals, within himself, the laws of thought, and understands, with ever-increasing accuracy, how the thought-forces and mind elements operate in the shaping of his character, circumstances, and destiny.

“If my career in show business hadn’t panned out, I would probably be working today in Hamilton, Ontario, at the Dofasco steel mill. Those were where the great jobs were.”

Jim Carrey on the Power of Visualization

In a 1997 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Comedian Jim Carrey described how he used visualization to earn $10 million through a check he had written earlier for services rendered.

In his 2014 Maharishi University of Management Commencement Speech, Canadian-American comedian Jim Carrey shares the lesson he learned about the power of manifestation from a substitute teacher in second grade. He said

I had a substitute teacher from Ireland in the second grade that told my class during morning prayer that when she wants something, anything at all, she prays for it and promises something in return. And she always gets what she wants. I’m sitting at the back of the classroom thinking, “Wow, my family can’t afford a bike.” So I went home and I prayed for one and I promised I would recite the rosary every night in exchange. Broke it. Broke that promise. But two weeks later, I got home from school to find a brand new mustang bike with a banana seat and easy rider handlebars. Yeah. From fool to cool.

My family informed me that I had won the bike in a raffle that a friend of mine had entered my name in without my knowledge whatsoever. So that type of thing has been happening to me ever since. As far as I can tell, it’s just about letting the universe know what you want and working toward it while letting go of how it comes to pass.

And don’t worry if you miss your cue because there’s always doors opening. They keep opening. And when I say, “Life doesn’t happen to you, it happens for you.” I really don’t know if that’s true. I’m just making a conscious choice to perceive challenges as something beneficial so that I can deal with them in the most productive way. You’ll come up with your own style. That’s part of the fun.

Oh, and why not take a chance on faith as well? Take a chance on faith, not religion, but faith. Not hope, but faith. I don’t believe in hope. Hope is a beggar. Hope walks through the fire and faith leaps over it. You are ready and able to do beautiful things in this world. And after you walk through those doors today, you will only ever have two choices, love or fear. Choose love, and don’t ever let fear turn you against your playful heart.

Until it’s on paper, it’s vapor.

Use your imagination – J.K.Rowling

In her very inspiring 2008 Harvard University Commencement speech, Author J.K.Rowling spoke about the benefits and the need to use our imagination:

Unlike any other creature on this planet, humans can learn and understand, without having experienced. They can think themselves into other people’s places.

Unlike any other creature on this planet, humans can learn and understand, without having experienced. They can think themselves into other people’s places. Of course, this is a power, like my brand of fictional magic, that is morally neutral. One might use such an ability to manipulate, or control, just as much as to understand or sympathise.

And many prefer not to exercise their imaginations at all. They choose to remain comfortably within the bounds of their own experience, never troubling to wonder how it would feel to have been born other than they are. They can refuse to hear screams or to peer inside cages; they can close their minds and hearts to any suffering that does not touch them personally; they can refuse to know.

I might be tempted to envy people who can live that way, except that I do not think they have any fewer nightmares than I do. Choosing to live in narrow spaces leads to a form of mental agoraphobia, and that brings its own terrors. I think the wilfully unimaginative see more monsters. They are often more afraid.

Drake on Extreme Manifesting

On his 35th birthday, Canadian-born rapper Drake shared with his 93 million Instagram followers, the follower message about manifesting things into our lives, he called it: Extreme Manifesting.

“Back in 2007 we used to finesse this Rolls Royce Phantom rental to convince people in the city we were destined to make it. I used to scrape together 5k a month somehow to keep up appearances. We whipped this to Ottawa to see @belly and @cashxo and to Montreal for my first show ever. I used to pick up @ovoniko and roll every day or wait outside @nebzilla class for her. Park outside 15 Fort York while me and @ovo40 and @oliverelkhatib would be upstairs cooking what would eventually become So Far Gone.

Even though I don’t recommend putting yourself in financial trouble for material things I realize now that this was just my way of extreme manifesting. I needed to see it and feel it and have it to believe that I could see and feel and have anything I wanted. Today in 2021 my brother @futuretheprince tracked down the exact car I use to stress over and gifted it to me…it’s mine now. Manifestation complete. Thank you for all the love and appreciation and gifts and texts and dm’s…more than just loved I feel truly appreciated and that is the only gift I ever needed. TREY FIVE EASY MONEY DRIZZY 😈 let’s get this shit. BLICK EMMMMMM

The above examples are from some of the most successful people in their various fields. It is a trait common in most successful people, they use their imagination, and manifest things into their lives through affirmations, goal setting, and hard work. I have seen the power of manifesting work severally in my life too. For example, in 2010 I was posted to Sokoto for the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). When I learned about my place of deployment, I was a little bit sad because of the distance between Sokoto and Lagos and it was way beyond my comfort zone. After a while, I accepted my faith and I started saying this to most of my friends “From Sokoto to Toronto, GADA to CANADA.”

My primary place of assignment (PPA) for NYSC was in GADA Local Government which is very close to the Republic of Niger border. I continually repeated the “Sokoto to Toronto, GADA to CANADA” statement even after youth service it was my guiding anchor. Eight years later, I relocated to Toronto Canada where I stay now and am writing this blog post from. Be careful what you ask and pray for, you might get it.

All the Best in your quest to get Better. Don’t Settle: Live with Passion.
