You Go First.

You Go First is a metaphor for being the first to make a move, take the initiative, and, in the process, get what you want. We often wait for the right moment, for the government to get their acts together, for the right clime or to get lucky. But as the Scandinavian proverb goes, “There is no bad weather, we only have inappropriate clothing”. The key is to be prepared for the weather, keep showing up, take initiative and execute relentlessly. The universe is neutral and often rewards the self-starters, self-motivated and go-getters that “Go First.”

Don’t wait to be contacted by a writing agent; start a blog. Don’t wait for people to reach out first; reach out. Don’t wait for the perfect time to start that business; make a move today. Don’t wait for the stars to align; re-align your values and live every day with your priority in view. Don’t wait for the stranger to say Hi; smile at them first, and magic could happen in the process.

Daily Calm with Tamara Levitt – Light of Awareness

Awareness is noticing, waking up and being here fully. As awareness grows, our vision includes more and more of what’s true, we are able to see things as they really are not through our limited or distorted perspective.

Daily Jay with Jay Shetty – Trust in Something

Jay used to listen daily to Steve Jobs’ 2005 Stanford University commencement speech and considers it his favourite audio clipping of all time. Jobs dropped out of college and was scared of the aftermath of his decision, but he trusted that things would be okay eventually.  He dropped into a calligraphy class afterwards, and that decision was pivotal in making Apple, the company he co-founded with Steve Wozniak, become design-focused. This taught him a vital lesson: “Again, you can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backward. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever.”

So much in life is unpredictable; there are so many possible paths crowded by the fog of uncertainty. And while it’s natural to struggle with doubt and fear, with second guesses, thinking the grass is greener, the best way forward is to believe that you are heading in the right direction. Not that your direction is pre-ordained, but all your steps can ultimately lead you to where you are meant to go.  Even if you don’t have a clear sense of your destination, every decision doesn’t always work out the way we hope. Still, each failure, blunder, and misfortune is a learning experience, a character builder, or a stone for your foundation.
