500 Days Meditation Streak – Lanre Dahunsi

Meditation is a practice to calm the brain by paying attention.

I started experimenting with meditation during the COVID-19 global pandemic. The pandemic was a roller coaster of anxiety, trials and tribulations, among other emotions. I had seen the Calm advert on YouTube but decided to check it out after watching an ad campaign featuring the Train Your Mind with LeBron James session. I started with the Lebron meditation on Calm and have been hooked on meditating ever since.

I learned a lot from the Lebron-Train Your Mind sessions, such as his sleep routine, work ethic and daily habits. Success is said to leave clues, and Lebron’s session demystified many of the reasons he has been successful and is considered one of the greatest basketball players of all time. I initially started following through with the Morning Wake Up session with Christian Slomka. The session is usually 5-7 minutes of standing sequences.

It took me a while to stay consistent and get to be able to meditate consistently. In the last quarter of 2021, I was going through the toughest period of my life, and I was searching for a practice to steady the chaos. On December 27, 2021, I set a goal to meditate consistently for at least 365 days, and I have been on a roll ever since.

I have meditated consistently for 500 days for 25-30 minutes, using the following guided meditations: Daily Jay – Jay ShettyDaily Calm – Tamara Levitt, and Daily Trip – Jeff Warren.  Meditating daily for the past 500 days is by far one of the consistent practices I have engaged in, and it has made me a better individual, mentally and emotionally.

Here are some of the major lessons I have learnt on goal setting, meditation and consistency.

  • Write down your goals.
  • Schedule your routine: I try to meditate simultaneously every day. I schedule my meditation after a morning routine, such as a gym workout or morning study time.
  • Everything is transient: One of the most important lessons I have learnt from meditating consistently is that everything in life is transient and impermanent; nothing lasts forever.

All the Best in Your Quest to get better. Don’t Settle: Live with Passion.
